While I was writing the short blurb on Marc Newson this afternoon, my mind began to drift and I found myself thinking of his many contemporaries – Tom Dixon, Patricia Urquiola, Jasper Morrison, the Bouroullec brothers – just to name a few. But it was Marcel Wanders who really stuck in my mind so I thought I'd share.
I’ve been a longtime fan of Mr. Wanders for his furniture design, but his body of work reaches far beyond the functional ornamentation we utilize as seating. In addition to high end furniture manufacturers, he has developed products for Target, Puma, M.A.C. Cosmetics – the list goes on! In 2001, he co-founded the creative powerhouse Moooi (prounced moo-e) and has been seducing the world with sparkling designs ever since. I absolutely love Moooi! The pieces are über-innovative and whimsical to boot. Here are a few of my favorites:
